Chennai: The four-month pregnant woman passenger, who was pushed out off a running Express train after resisting a sexual assault bid by a drunkard inside the Ladies compartment has suffered a miscarriage, even as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed deep shock over the incident and announced a solatium of Rs three lakhs to her and that her full medical expenses would be borne by the State government.
In a statement here on Sunday, he said on February 6, the culprit, Hemaraj, had boarded the Coimbatore-Tirupati Intercity Express train at the Jolarpettai Railway station and entered the Ladies compartment where the woman was the lone passenger.
After he tried to sexually assault, she bravely resisted the rape attempt before she was pushed out of the running train by him.
Mr Stalin said the woman, who suffered serious injuries, was admitted to a hospital, where she suffered a miscarriage yesterday.
Expressing deep anguish and shock over the incident,the Chief Minister said the survivor victim was admitted to Vellore Government hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital in Ranipet for advanced treatment.
He said he has directed the hospital authorities to provide best of treatment to her and that the Tamil Nadu government will bear the entire medical expenses of the victim.
Pointing out that the culprit Hemaraj of Poonjolai village in K.V.Kuppam village was arrested soon after the incident, Mr Stalin expressed his deep anguish and announced a financial assistance of Rs three lakh to the family of the woman passenger from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.
It may be recalled that Southern Railway also expressed its deep anguish over the unfortunate incident and handed over an assistance of Rs 50,000 to the woman passenger at the Vellore hospital yesterday.
The woman, who was four months pregnant, was alone in the Ladies compartment, when the drunkard man boarded the Coimbatore-Tirupati Inter-City express while it was in motion at the Jolarpettai.
When the man attempt to sexually assault her, she bravely resisted the rape bid before he pulled her by her hair and pushed her out of the running train near Katpadi between Kavanur and Virinjipuram stations and sustained injuries.
The woman, who fell unconscious, was rescued from the Railway tracks by the villagers and locals and rushed to the nearby hospital.
Acting on a complaint from the victim and recording her statement, the Government Railway Police arrested Hemaraj, who was also earlier arrested for a similar offence.
