Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) expressed his jubilation over the outstanding performances of Telangana Boxer Nikhat Zareen and Athlete Agasara Nandini, who clinched medals in the Boxing and Heptathlon categories respectively, at the Asian Games held in China.

In a late-night statement issued on Sunday, CM KCR commended the medal-winning athletes for bringing honor to Telangana and elevating India's prestige. The Chief Minister acknowledged the momentous achievement of Telangana Gurukulams in nurturing exceptional athletes who have excelled on the Asian Games stage.

The CM further lauded the medalists for setting new records and enhancing India's reputation on the global stage. He credited the state government's support for the success of Telangana's boxing champion and Heptathlon athlete.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government's commitment to providing unwavering support to athletes, enabling them to achieve numerous milestones in international sports.

Telangana Gurukula student Agasara Nandini secured the bronze medal in Heptathlon during the ongoing Asian Games. Nandini is the sole athlete from Telangana state who participated in athletics at the Asian Games.

Nandini is currently a second-year BBA student at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Women's Degree College, Sangareddy. She completed her education up to the 10th standard at Gurukula School, Narsingi.

Nandini is a pioneer student of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Education Institution Society Athletics Academy.

Despite being born into an economically disadvantaged family, Nandini's father, Yallaiah, who operates a tea shop, enrolled his daughter in Gurukula school. Nandini displayed a remarkable passion for sports alongside her academic excellence. She consistently delivered outstanding performances at various international events, earning accolades.

Nikhat Zareen made her debut in athletics at the age of 12 during a meet in Nizamabad. She went on to become the world champion twice in a row. Nikhat became the second Indian boxer, after the legendary Mary Kom, to secure multiple World Championships in the women's boxing senior category.

Born in Nizamabad and currently residing in Hyderabad, Nikhat's father is a sports enthusiast involved in cricket and football. He played a pivotal role in training his four daughters as accomplished sportspersons. The visionary approach of CM KCR and the support provided to athletes have yielded remarkable results. (UNI)
