UP: Over 50, mostly women, killed in stampede during Bhole Baba satsang in Hathras (VIDEO)

Hathras (UP): Over 50 people were killed in a stampede during satsang in the Sikandra Rao area of Hathras district here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, Hathras DM Ashish Kumar said.

The incident took place in Phulrai village under Sikandra Rao police station, with satsang of Bhole Baba was being held.

Talking to news agency ANI, Hathras DM Ashish Kumar said, "A figure of nearly 50-60 deaths has been reported to me by the doctors. The injured are being taken to the hospital and people are still being recovered. The primary focus of the administration is to provide all possible help to the injured and kin of the deceased."

Permission for the event was given by the SDM and it was a private event. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the matter, " Kumar said.

Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Etah Rajesh Kumar Singh had said that 27 bodies have been received at Etah Hospital. "These include 23 females, 3 children, and 1 male. It is an unfortunate incident."

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the accident in Hathras district and has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. He has also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. (Inputs from Agencies)
