Uttar Pradesh: Village chowkidar beaten to death for denying to give bike to bring alcohol in Mahoba

Mahoba (UP): A 50-year-old Dalit village chowkidar was beaten to death by some persons in Mahobakanth area of Mahoba district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Thursday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harshita Gangwar said that Chhakki Lal, a resident of Kanora village, was a chowkidar of Basaur village. "He also used to play band music on weddings and other occasions," she said.

She said that on Wednesday night, while Chhakki was taking the band to a wedding ceremony in a neighbouring village half a dozen goons drinking alcohol at a place near Ruri Kalan stopped him and asked for his bike to go to the liquor shop. "When Chhakki refused the goons attacked the chowkidar with sticks while abusing him on caste lines," she said.

The DSP said that the chowkidar, who sustained serious injuries, died on the spot. "On the basis of the complaint of the deceased's family, the police have registered a case and started investigation. The police are raiding the possible hideouts of the accused to arrest them," she said.
