New Delhi: Hours after BJP MP Varun Gandhi criticised the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP on Thursday dropped his name from the National Executive committee list of 80 members.

Besides, Varun Gandhi, former Union Minister Birender Kumar has been removed from the list, as both the leaders have been openly criticizing the killings of the farmers and the three contensious farm laws passed by Parliament.

Meanwhile, the name of Maneka Gandhi has been also been removed from the list.

Since the Lakhimpur Kheri violence took place, Varun Gandhi has been tweeting and condemning it openly on the micro blogging site, Twitter.

On Thursday, the BJP MP called for “accountability for the innocent blood of farmers” as he posted a video of the incident.

“The video is crystal clear. Protestors cannot be silenced through murder. There has to be accountability for the innocent blood of farmers that has been spilled and justice must be delivered before a message of arrogance and cruelty enters the minds of every farmer," he said in a tweet.

On October 4, he had written a letter to the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded a CBI inquiry under the Supreme Court's supervision.

His name was dropped from the list at a time when the party is gearing up for the upcoming Assembly polls.

BJP on Thursday constituted a new national executive committee with 80 members. Besides 80 regular members, the executive will also have 50 special invitees and 179 permanent invitees. (UNI)
