A massive fire broke out on the Jaipur–Ajmer highway late Tuesday night after a truck carrying LPG cylinders collided with another vehicle, police said.

The collision triggered a series of explosions as the gas cylinders began bursting, causing flames and loud blasts that were visible and audible from several kilometres away. Several nearby vehicles were also affected by the blaze.

Fire brigades and police teams rushed to the site near the Dudu area, where traffic movement on the highway has been completely halted.

Following directions from Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa reached the spot to review the situation. Speaking to the media, Bairwa said that the drivers and cleaners of both trucks were currently untraceable.

“There is no information about casualties yet. Police and the administration are trying to locate those missing,” he said.

Senior police officers and district administration officials are stationed at the site to manage the situation. Meanwhile, the SMS Hospital in Jaipur has been placed on alert as a precautionary measure.

This incident comes less than a year after a similar tragedy on the same highway, when an LPG tanker collided with a truck near Bhankrota in December 2024, resulting in a massive fire that claimed 19 lives.
