Chandigarh: Chandigarh police today arrested Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar in the stalking case. This was confirmed by the Chandigarh Police IGP Tejinder Singh Luthra in a press conference here this evening. Chandigarh Police have added non-bailable sections 365/511 of the IPC to the FIR registered against both the accused at Sector-26 police station.

The two were arrested after questioning. They will be produced in the court tomorrow. Earlier in the morning, after collecting CCTV footage of the incident, Chandigarh police pasted summons outside the Sector 7 residence of Mr Barala, asking Vikas to join investigation at 1100 hrs today though they arrived at around 1430 hrs.

DSPs Satish Kumar and Pawan Kumar were at the police station when both the accused arrived there. Earlier too, they were arrested on Saturday at the Housing Board light point for allegedly stalking Varnika Kundu, daughter of senior IAS officer VS Kundu. The girl alleged that both the boys followed her in their SUV from the Sector 26 Grain Market area when she was on her way to Panchkula. But they were granted bail.

Mr Subhash Barala said his son had joined investigation after being summoned by the police. There was no pressure on the police and Vikas would accept any punishment if found guilty. Meanwhile, Congress and NSUI workers held a protest outside the Sector 26 police station and demanded arrest of the two accused. (UNI)
