Bhopal: Certain videos of incidents – which constitute a blot on humanity and place a question mark on the law-and-order situation – have attracted national attention and are sullying Madhya Pradesh’s reputation as an ‘island of peace’.

The latest in this ignoble series surfaced on Sunday and pertains to Ujjain District where some youths are seen compelling an elderly scrap-dealer sporting a skull cap to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The approximately 30-second-long video is going viral in social media and eliciting sharp reactions from across the country.

The episode rapidly assumed political hues with Congress state President and erstwhile chief minister Kamal Nath saying – via social media – “Who are these people ceaselessly perpetrating such actions, thereby vitiating our culture of fraternity? It appears there is a special agenda. The government is a mute spectator. An atmosphere of anarchy prevails in the entire state and a mockery is being made of law. I demand the strictest measures against such elements.”

“This is the limit! Will Ujjain police initiate steps against the offenders?” wondered Rajya Sabha Member Digvijaya Singh. (UNI)
