WB Govt promoting home stay tourism in Adivasi-populated villages in the Ayodhya Hills

WB Govt promoting home stay tourism in Adivasi-populated villages in the Ayodhya Hills
, Friday, 3 November 2017 (11:23 IST)
Kolkata : The West Bengal Government is promoting homestay
tourism in the Adivasi-populated villages in the Ayodhya Hills in Purulia
district.

The first such project is being implemented in Punia Sasan village in
Baghmundi block.
Over the last few years, it is being seen that more and more people are
visiting the verdant Ayodhya Hills, especially in winter. Since it is difficult
and not environment-friendly to construct too many resorts in ecologically
fragile areas, the government has come up with this measure to
accommodate tourists.
These home stays would also give the Adivasi villagers, most of whom
are poor, an additional source of income. The Adivasi villagers who would
be running these home stays are being given training for the purpose.
Being the original inhabitants of the land, the Adivasis are intimately
acquainted with the history, and folk culture and literature of the region.
Hence, they can be the guides for tourists flocking the region.
Staying in home stays would also give tourists a feel of Adivasi life. (UNI)
