7 Tripura youths arrested on gang-rape charge of 4 minors

Agartala: West Tripura police arrested seven youths age between 19 and 21 years last night on the charge of gang-rape of four minor girls on June 12 last in a rubber estate at Bahamanipara of Gabardi area under Srinagar police station area of Agartala.
The accused youths were produced before the court seeking remand today.
Police said all the accused are the residents of Champaknagar area of Jirania sub-division in eastern Agartala and have been identified as Manjit Debbarma (19), Birkumar Debbarma (21), Ripan Debbarma (19), Bimal Debbarma (20), Sajal Debbarma (20), Chanki Debbarma (19 and Bishal Debbarma (21).
 
The victims alleged that Rin, Bimal and Sajal had invited their girlfriends to meet in the rubber estate and accordingly they along with their other classmate went to a nearby area. After reaching the spot, four girls met the seven youths and all of them proceeded to Bahamanipara rubber estate on motorbikes to roam around.
 
According to the allegation, after reaching the spot the victims were forced into the jungle and raped repeatedly by the youths for a couple of hours. The accused allegedly fled away leaving them on the main road in the dark evening.
 
Due to the Covid curfew, the entire area was deserted having no vehicle. Finally, they managed an auto-rickshaw to go back home.The victims’ families at night registered a complaint with police against the accused and admitted the victim girls to a local hospital. Police said all the victims were 14 to 16 age group and school students.
 
Based on the complaint, police launched a haunt against the accused and all of them were arrested from a house in their locality.“The accused confessed to the crime and they are produced in the court,” police added.(UNI)
