New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister advised bureaucrats not to use social media for self-promotion, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today took a dig at Mr Narendra Modi and suggested that the latter should rather try to lead by example.

"Leading by example is clearly overrated," the Congress vice-president said on Twitter. The Prime Minister not only actively uses the social media -- Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to connect with the public, he is also the most followed leader on Twitter and Instagram in the country.

Incidentally, Mr Modi is country's best known social-network oriented leader as he made optimum use of the new emerging media ever since his days as Gujarat Chief Minister and was more often under attack for his alleged failure to control and put a check on the post-Godhra 2002 anti-Muslim riots.

There is often a buzz in political circle that Mr Modi could successfully promote himself and his views on Hindutva and other issues and that actually helped him earn a nationwide acceptability.

In the meantime, BJP leader and Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani sought to join issue with Mr Gandhi, her political rival for Lok Sabha constituency Amethi (in 2014) and tweeted: "Look who is talking about being over rated". She also accompanied her missive with a smiley. (UNI)
