Accused in Kokrajhar double rape and murder case shot at while trying to flee

Guwahati: An alleged accused in the sensational Kokrajhar double rape and murder case was shot at, while he was trying to flee, police said.The accused Forizul Rahman (22), has sustained injuries and is admitted to the Barpeta Medical Hospital.
Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police (SP) Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar told UNI, during investigation where accused led the police team to a place where he said he has kept his mobile hidden. The incident took place during a search operation conducted at around 2:30 AM of Thursday, during which Rahman tried to escape.
 
"The accused led the search operation team to a spot where he said he has kept his mobile phone hidden. He revealed this information during the interrogation. However, it turned out to be a weapon with which he attacked our search team".
 
" As he tried to flee, we had to resort to a control fire following which the accused got injured with a single bullet wound. He has been hospitalised in Bapeta Medical Hospital," he added.
Notably, two minor girls belonging to tribal community were found hanging from a tree in a village under Kokrajhar police. Their deaths were initially reported as suicide. However, the family of the victims demanded an investigation.
 
Following this, the Assam police identified all the culprits and have so far made seven arrests in connection with the heinous crime.(UNI)
