NAWADA: A prisoner in Bihar’s Nawada jail has cleared the IIT Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) and secured 54th rank at the national level. The IIT-JAM exam was held on February 13.

Suraj Kumar Yadav, a murder accused, attributed his success to Nawada jail superintendent who “motivated him to crack the exam and also provided necessary books”.

A resident of Mosma village under Warsaliganj police station in Nawada district, Suraj was arrested last year after he was named in an FIR along with 10 other people.

Reports say that before his arrest, Suraj was studying at Kota in Rajasthan for the entrance examination. Owing to the nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19 in 2021, he returned to his native village.
