BJP, Congress starts preparing for Rajya Sabha elections scheduled on May 25

Imphal: The ruling BJP alliance and the Congress have started looking for potential candidates for the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections scheduled on May 25 next. Sitting MP Haji Abdul Salam of the Congress died on February 28 and his term was up to April 09, 2020, hence election is necessitated. According to CEO, Manipur, Dewangan, notification will be issued on May 8 .
 

The counting will be done on the same day itself. The BJP leaders have started lobbying for the post. The Congress is also likely to put up a candidate. AICC, General Secretary, Dr CP Joshi is also in the state to discuss about the election and the recent defection of six MLAs to BJP. The Congress is demanding disqualification of the six MLAs as they violated the Constitution under Anti-defection law. (UNI)
