Calcutta HC issues show cause notice to senior cops in Post-poll violence

New Delhi/Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday issued a show cause notice for contempt to court proceedings against a senior police official of Kolkata for allegedly failing to prevent the obstacles in the investigation of post-poll violence by the National Human Rights Commission.
As per the interim report submitted to the High Court by the NHRC, the vice-chairperson of the commission was allegedly obstructed and prevented to perform the duties in Jadavpur. On the basis of the report, the court issued a notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of South Kolkata, Rashid Munir Khan.
 
The High Court has asked the NHRC to probe the atrocities of post-poll violence. As per the court's direction, a seven-member team of the NHRC was formed to investigate the matter and submit the report to the court.
 
A five-judge bench, of the High Court, headed by Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, is hearing the cases pertaining to the post-poll violence which erupted in some parts of the state after Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress was elected again to power.
 
Meanwhile, the court ordered another post-mortem of Avijit Sarkar, the Bharatiya Janata Party worker, who was killed allegedly in the violence.The court will hear the matter again on July 13.(UNI)
