Bhopal: Even as the nation battles the 'millennium scourge', Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan averred on Tuesday that the COVID-19-related curfew will be lifted gradually from June 1 in the state.

"In such a situation, you have to exercise extreme care. Wear masks, maintain social distance, do not visit crowded places and wash hands repeatedly. Vaccination is compulsory. By following these precautions, we will continue to combat the contagion and also do our work," the senior politician was officially quoted as saying at Mantralaya while video-conferencing with construction workers.

The veteran leader electronically transferred Rs 112.81 crore under the COVID-19 assistance scheme to the accounts of 11.28 lakh such labourers.

"Every indigent individual is being provided free ration of 5 kg for five months. This is a combined endeavour by my dispensation and the Centre," he pointed out.

Free treatment is being given under the COVID Upchar Yojana. If parents die due to the virus, a scheme for providing monthly assistance of Rs 5,000 to the orphaned children has commenced. (UNI)
