Deep depression from Cyclone ‘Gaja’ to intensify into cyclonic storm, low pressure to bring rains to TN from Nov 19

Chennai: The Deep Depression over Southeast Arabian Sea, formed from the remnant of Cyclone ‘Gaja’, on Saturday moved westwards with a speed of 18 kmph and lay centered over Southeast Arabian Sea, even as a low pressure area would form over the South Bay of Bengal by tomorrow evening and move towards Tamil Nadu promising heavy rains for the State and Puducherry from November 19.

Met office sources said the deep depression was likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 12 hours and very likely to move nearly westwards across Lakshadweep Islands during the next 24 hours.

Under its influence, rainfall would occur at most places and heavy to very heavy falls with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Lakshadweep during next 24 hours and heavy falls at isolated places during subsequent 24 hours.

Squally winds, with speed reaching 55-65 kmph and gusting to 75 kmph, would prevail over Southeast Arabian sea and Lakshadweep area. It is very likely to gradually increase becoming gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph and gusting to 90 kmph during next 24 hours.

Sea conditions would be rough to very rough during next 12 hours and is likely to be high during subsequent 48 hours over southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area and rough to very rough along and off Kerala coast during next 24 hours. (UNI)
