New Delhi: Noting that many parties and candidates are not adhering to prescribed COVID-19 safety norms during campaigning in West Bengal Assembly polls, the Election Commission on Thursday evening banned road shows, pad-yatras, cycle/bike/vehicle rallies in the state for remaining two phases of the state Assembly polls.

The Election Commission further said that no public meeting beyond the limit of 500 persons will be allowed.

The poll body’s order comes into force will from 1900 hrs on Thursday.

The Election Commission on Thursday issued fresh campaign guidelines for the West Bengal polls, noting that many parties and candidates are not adhering to prescribed safety norms.

“The commission has noted with anguish that many political parties/candidates are still not adhering to prescribed safety norms during the public gatherings and this is making difficult for States/District Election machineries to enforce the directions fully,” the poll body said in the order.
