Elderly man mauled to death by leopard in Maharashtra’s Gondia

Gondia: An elderly man was mauled to death by a leopard in a village in Arjuni Morgaon tehsil of Maharashtra’s Gondia district after he had taken his cattle out to graze, an official said here on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Laxman Gando Bhogare (70) and the incident took place on Monday in a reserve forest area near Chichtola village under the Keshori range, the official said.

According to the official, Laxman had taken his cattle out to graze and when he didn’t return home till late evening even after his livestock returned, a search was launched by villagers.

The victim’s body was found in the reserve forest area and immediately the authorities were informed, the official said.

The death due to leopard attack has been confirmed by the Forest department authorities.

The body has been handed over to the deceased’s kin, the official said.

The incident has created panic among the villagers in the area. (UNI)
