Chandigarh: The Haryana government has suspended mobile internet and SMS services in Karnal district as the protesting farmers stay put outside the mini-secretariat seeking action against an IAS officer and the police personnel involved in lathi-charge on protesting farmers in Karnal district last week.
As per an order issued by the state's Home Department, suspension on mobile internet and SMS services will remain in effect till 2359 hours on Thursday.'
The decision was taken by the Government to stop the spread of "misinformation and rumors" through various social media platforms and to "prevent any disturbance of peace and public order", it said.
The farmers have been protesting against the police action. It may be mentioned here that talks between protesting farmers and district administration over former's demand of action against police and IPS officer had again failed to yield a breakthrough on Wednesday.
Last Monday too, the state government has snapped internet services till September 7 in view of Kisan Mahapanchayat in the district. (UNI)
