Chandigarh: Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that the football sports stadium, equipped with FIFA approved state-of-the-art facilities at Ambala Cantonment, will be ready soon at a cost of Rs 115 crore.

Mr Vij said that there used to be a time when Haryana stood out in its performance in the sport of football in the country, however, with the passage of time there was a decline in the game. With the completion of this stadium, the sport of football will be revived in the state, he added.

He reviewed the construction works at the Football Stadium of War Heroes Memorial Stadium, Ambala Cantonment on Tuesday and held a meeting with old and new sportspersons related to football. The team from Ambala district, who had just defeated Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, was also present during the meeting and shared their memories with him as well.

Mr Vij said that all facilities will be available in the Football Sports Stadium. The sportspersons gave their suggestions for the construction of the football stadium which will further enhance the grandeur and beauty of the Football Sports Stadium, he added.

On this occasion, the sportspersons appreciated the Minister for providing the football stadium, warm-up swimming pool and other sports facilities with international facilities being built at the War Heroes Stadium. They said that this will give aspiring athletes excellent facilities related to the sports world, while the sportspersons will also work to make Ambala proud.

The Minister also said that work is being done to establish a good academy here as well.

Mr Vij said that in addition to this, a grand martyr memorial is being built on 22 acres along the Ambala-Delhi road at a cost of more than Rs 220 crore. He said that he had been demanding the construction of this memorial in the Vidhan Sabha for the last 21 years. In the previous governments, mere declarations were made to build the martyr’s memorial; dates were announced however, nothing was done apart from this, he added. He said that the present state government has started the construction work of this memorial as soon as it came to power.

On this occasion, he also extended his good wishes to the new athletes emerging in the field of sports. After this, he visited the entire stadium and gave directions to the officers while reviewing the ongoing preparations. (UNI)
