Surat: The son of Gujarat Minister of State for Health Kishore Kanani, Prakash K Kanani and two of his friends were arrested on Sunday in connection with an altercation with a woman constable.

ACP C K Patel, who has been appointed as the inquiry officer of the matter by Commissioner of Police R B Brahmbhatt, told UNI that Prakash and his two friends were arrested today.

“A case under sections 269 and 270 (defying orders for containing the spread of a pandemic), 114 (abetment of offence) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) has been lodged in this connection in the Varachha police station,” he said.

The trio was later released on bail.

To a query, Patel said that Sunita Yadav has not resigned yet. “A departmental inquiry regarding her conduct was also on,” he said.

The police constable was posted at Varachha police station at the time of the incident.

She had reportedly stopped five youths travelling in a car without wearing masks and being out on the streets during the curfew hour recently. She also stood firm on duty even when Prakash entered the scene on getting a phone call from one of his friends involved in the incident. The lady constable also made him remove the MLA sign board from the vehicle of his father. She also asked him why he stepped out during curfew hours and did his father know about it.

When Prakash arrived on the spot, they threatened and abused her, she is heard while informing her senior.

The minister demanded an in-depth inquiry into the matter. His son Prakash said that he was out to help his friends and did not misbehave with the lady.

Meanwhile, a twitter message with hashtag isupportsunitayadav was going viral. Former IPS officer D G Vanzara has also supported the lady constable. (UNI)
