Shimla: The rain fury and unprecedented rainfall in Himachal Pradesh forced a bride and groom to solemnise their wedding online, which was uploaded on Facebook posts by former CPI (M) MLA Rakesh Singha.

The bride, Shivani Thakur, of Sees village of Bhuntar in Kullu District, was expecting a barat' of her groom, Ashish Singha, of Mangsu village, Tehsil Kotgarh, from Shimla District, but inclement weather played spoilsport.

Earlier, the Barat party of 30 people, along with Rakesh Singha, couldn't move away from Bithal on NH 5 and had to return to Kotgarh.

Having no option, both families decided to perform the marriage online on Monday because it was difficult to move to Kullu due to worse weather and perform 'lagan' (the scheduled time of the wedding ritual) in time.

The bride and groom perform an online wedding sitting in their respective homes, which is a first-of-its-kind event in the state.

Later, two families also shared photographs of the wedding ceremony on social media, displaying how both families witnessed and participated with full emotion while quietly sitting at home. The bride is likely to move to the groom's house with improving weather conditions.

The bride often moves to the groom's house in a wedding tradition of hills, and marriage rituals are also performed at the house of the groom.

Singha said that the unprecedented event in the Kotgarh area is likely to inspire many future couples and communities to explore online wedding options when faced with unforeseen circumstances. (UNI)
