Imam of local mosque shot dead in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh

A 36-year-old Imam of a local mosque was shot dead by unidentified persons in Katghar area Moradabad district here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, a police officer said here.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Akhilesh Bhadauria said that the body of Imam Maulana Akram was recovered from the ruins in Bhainsiya village. "The police and the forensic team reached the spot immediately after getting the information," he said.

He said that a native of Chaupura Maswasi village under Suar police station area of Rampur district, Maulana Akram had been leading the prayers in the big mosque of Bhainsiya village for the last several years. "He used to live with his wife Amana and three children," he said.

The ASP said that it is being suspected that Maulana Akram was called out of his house on Tuesday morning, taken to the ruin where he was shot dead. "The police are collecting facts from the wife of the deceased. So far the family members have denied the possibility of any rivalry," he said.(UNI)<>
