Bengaluru: The Karnataka state government has initiated the process to ban organizations like Popular Front of India (PFI), which are allegedly involved in anti-social and terror-related activities in the state.

State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday evening said that instructions have been given to the police and officers concerned to gather information about the activities of such organisations so that necessary inputs can be sent to the Center.

He made it clear that the action would not be limited against PFI and SDFI (Social Democratic Front of India), rather any organisation which is involved in such activities, would meet the same fate.

His statement came weeks after the arrest of terrorist suspects from Karnataka.

Two people with alleged links to some IS activists in Kerala and recently wanted in connection with the murder of a special sub-inspector in Tamil Nadu were arrested from Udupi railway station on January 14.

The Uttar Pradesh police has called for a ban on PFI after being suspected in recent statewide violent protests against the amended Citizenship act.

“Because of certain recent incidents (anti-social and terror), it is necessary for us to take stringent action. Already Uttar Pradesh government has decided to take action, we also have taken all these activities seriously, Bommai said.

“We are making all preparations to stop their activities completely and ban them. I have ordered officials to collect all such materials”, the Minister asserted.

Pointing out to the incidents such as the attack on Congress MLA Tanvir Sait and the killings and attacks on activists of right-wing organizations, the minister said, there have been several attempts to create violence and unrest. (UNI)
