Kerala: 8-month pregnant woman, husband charred to death after moving car catches fire in Kannur (VIDEO)

Kannur: Two people including an eight-month-old pregnant woman were charred to death, when their car caught fire at Kannur City, on Thursday, police said.
 
Four other close relatives of the deceased were able to escape unhurt when the six members' family were on the way to District hospital from Kuttiyattor for the routine medical check related to pregnancy of the victim woman.
 
According to Police, the deceased were identified as Prajith (32), a building contractor and his wife Risha (26), duo hailing from Kuttiyattor near Mayyil in the district.
 
The incident took place around 1045 hrs, the car was on its way towards the District hospital and accidently caught fire from the front side of the car. Prajeesh and Risha were unable to alight from the car, as they were trapped in the seat belts and the front door was also locked.
 
However, the four people seated on the back side, including Risha's parents Viswanathan, Sobha, her sister Sajna and the deceased couple's daughter Sree Paravathy (7) escaped unhurt, after they jumped from the car by unlocking the back door.

The accident took place in between the Kannur Fire force office and District hospital at Kannur Fort road, around 200 metres away from the hospital and 100 metres away from the Fire Force office. Fire force personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire, but both died on the spot.

Fire force sources said, prima facie short circuit was the cause of the incident and police revealed that the cause would be ascertained after forensic examination. (UNI)
