Wayanad: In a big blow to Congress ahead of Kerala Assembly polls, its senior leader and KPCC vice president K C Rosakutty quit the party and also declared to get along with the CPI-M.

It was the ‘sidelining of women in the party’ and ‘ignorance of district leaders in casting an outsider’ as the candidate in Kalpetta constituency were among the reason Rosakutty pointed out as the cause for her resignation from Congress.

A former MLA of Congress from Sulthan Bathery seat left the Congress camp after over thirty years of her association with the party.

She had become chairperson of the Kerala Women’s Commission in 2012.

Senior CPI-M leader and former Minister P K Sreemathi and Kalpetta candidate and LJD state president Sreyams Kumar were among those who reached Rosakutty’s house in Sulthan Bathery to welcome her to the LDF fold.

Earlier, Lathika Subhash, chief of the Kerala Mahila Congress, had tonsured her head after she was being denied the ticket. Now, she is fighting the polls as independent.

On March 10, senior leader P C Chacko had also quit the Congress, alleging groupism in the state party unit. (UNI)
