Maharashtra: Tiger dies of drowning in of Pench Sanctuary

Nagpur: A tiger died of drowning in Navegaon Khairi reservoir near Parseoni in the buffer area of Pench Tiger Reserve, a senior forest official told UNI.

According to the official, the forest personnel staying at Kopesarra protection hut of Paoni (Unified Control) range of the reserve found body of a tiger floating in the reservoir about 500 metres from the bank of compartment No: 556 Reserve Forest of Bazarkund beat.

The staff spotted the tiger late evening on Monday and ascertained death around 9 pm after reaching the spot, the official said.

However, the body was retrieved on Tuesday noon.

No sign of electrocution or poisoning, he informed.

Forest officials have collected visceral samples for forensic analysis.

Further investigation is underway, he added. (UNI)
