Kolhapur (Maharashtra): Some office bearers of the All India Marathi Film Corp (AIMFC) on Friday tried to immolate themselves here in support of the Jayprabha studio, but the police quickly intervened and saved them.
They have been protesting for some 250 days in a bid to save the studio where they are seeking permission to resume shooting of Marathi films.
Alleging that they were pitted against a powerful builder lobbdy, some of the protesters poured kerosene over themselves for self-immolation but the police foiled the attempt and detained all of them.
AIMFC Vice President Dhanaji Yamkar and others including Bala Jadhav, Milind Asthekar, Satish Randive, Sunil Muscle were present.
Jayprabha studio was founded in 1933 by Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj. (UNI)
