Indore: The Madhya Pradesh High Court granted bail – against sureties of Rs 50,000 each – on Tuesday to three women who stand accused in the honeytrap case.
Justice Subodh Abhyankar heard the petitions of Shweta Jain, another Shweta Jain and Monika Yadav together. The defence counsel submitted that the trio have spent in excess of one-and-a-half years in judicial custody and hearings may take a considerable amount of time as the number of witnesses exceeds 50.
In 2019, a Municipal Corporation engineer lodged a complaint with law-enforcement authorities that some women made a video of his “personal moments” and were using that to blackmail him for crores. Three women were among six individuals – including a car driver – placed under arrest.
Electronic equipment, numerous objectionable films and other material was appropriated from their possession. Investigation revealed that the perpetrators blackmailed several influential persons.
Release of the women in question appears difficult as another case is registered against them. (UNI)
