N Biren sworn in as first BJP CM of Manipur

Imphal: Mr Nongthombam Biren Singh was today sworn in as the first BJP Chief Minister of Manipur at the Raj Bhawan. He took the oath in Manipuri. Governor Najma Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Singh. Mr Yumnam Joykumar of National People’s Party (NPP) and former DGP was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister. All the four NPP MLAs were given ministerial berths.

Other ministers who took the oath were Th Biswajit, BJP, L Jayantakumar, NPP, Karam Shyam of LJP, Letpao Haokip of NPP, N Kayisii of NPP, Th Shyamkumar, who defected from Congress, and Losii Dikho of Naga People’s Front. As the ceremony ended, BJP workers shouted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai," “Manipur Mata Ki Jai,” “Shri Shri Govindajee ki Jai”. The Raj Bhawan was packed with BJP leaders who rushed in from New Delhi and other states.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, many leaders of BJP and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh were present in the swearing-in ceremony. As the ceremony ended, a reception was organised at BJP office this noon which was attended by hundreds of its leaders and workers. Mr N Biren was garlanded by senior BJP leaders and cultural programmes were organised on the occasion. Fireworks were seen near the BJP office. (UNI)
