Srinagar: To foil United Nations Military Observer (UNMO) 'office challo' call after Eid prayers, authorities have imposed strict curfew from early this morning in Kashmir valley where 78 people have died and more then 8000 others have been injured in security forces action during the last two months. Due to curfew, no Eid congregation could be held in Eidgahs, other open fields and holy places.
The authorities also snapped internet services, cellular services of all companies since yesterday while the mobile internet and prepaid mobile service are already suspended since July 9 in the valley. Both the faction of Hurriyat conference and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front(JKLF), spearheading the present agitation from July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in the Anantnag, had called for an UNMO 'office chalo' after Eid prayers.
Thousands of security forces and state police personnel could be seen deployed across Kashmir valley, including the summer capital Srinagar to strictly implement curfew restriction. At some places, particularly in south Kashmir and on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway army had also been deployed to prevent any law and order problem. Helicopters and drones are also being used to keep a close watch on the situation in Kashmir valley.
The decision to impose curfew in the entire Kashmir valley where life remain crippled since July 9, was taken at a high level meeting held here last evening following UNMO 'office chalo' call by separatists. This is for the first time in the history of Kashmir that a curfew has been imposed in the entire valley on the occasion of Eid.
