Palghar mob lynching case: 14 accused get bail

Thane: The district court here on Tuesday granted bail to 14 people, arrested in infamous mob lynching case of April last year, in which two sadhus were killed by an irate mob in Gadchinchale village of neighbouring Palghar district.

However, Additional Sessions Judge R S Gupta rejected the bail application of 18 others in the crime.

The court also posted the next date of hearing on July 30 in the case.

The charges are to be framed in the case against the accused, who account for more than 200.

In this case, celebrity lawyer Satish Maneshinde appears as a special public prosecutor for the trial.

It was on the night of April 16, 2020, two sadhus of Juna Akhara, namely Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70) and Sushilgiri Maharaj (35) along with their 30-year-old driver Nilesh Telgade were passing through Gadchinchale, 140 km north of Mumbai, and while their car was stopped at a local checkpoint, the vigilante group accosted and attacked them with sticks and axes, killing them.

The victims were mistaken for being child lifters and organ harvesters. (UNI)
