Pune wicket not poor, but challenging: Vijay

Bengaluru: Indian opener Murali Vijay today disputed ICC match refree Chris Broad who termed Pune wicket as poor strip but said such wickets posed challenges to players and he personally enjoys such situation.Speaking to reporters here, after the Indian team had practice at M Chinnaswamy stadium in preparation for Second Test against Australia beginning on March 4, he maintained that Pune wicket was not substandard and he as a player always expects different wickets and take up the challenging task.

'What is the fun of playing on flat tracks,' he asked.Both India and Australian squads arrived in the city yesterday night from Pune by a charted flight.Replying to a question, Vijay said the Indian bowlers had performed well but huge first innings lead the team conceded did the team in.
It was good performance that they restricted Australia to 260 in the first innings.

But due to huge first innings lead the team conceded, bowlers had to go on a attacking mode in the second innings and gave away more runs.Also dropped catches had cost the hosts dear, he added.He said the team had a meeting after the match on improving on catching.The Tamil Nadu batsman said he was looking to build big opening partnership with in-form K L Rahul."Maybe, big partnership between us is around the corner," he added.
