Rio de Janeiro: Chances of India to draw first blood were looking bleak after Indian athletes were crashing out in various events viz shooting, archery, hockey, lawn tennis. But sports are all about the turnaround, fans waited for 12 days to open the account and now India has sealed two medals in a trot. After the Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik ended the medal drought, ‘S’ factor again came into play. PV Sindhu won the semi final of the women badminton singles with a scoreline of 21-19, 21- 10 and insured to seal at least a silver medal.
Battling against the Japanese shuttler Nozomi Okuhara , P V Sindhu dominated the game from the beginning. However Okuhara remained in the hunt and managed to curtail the lead, but her efforts were not enough to save the first set. PV Sindhu took advantage of her height and played with patience, but gifted many fouls to the opponents.
In the second set Okuhara took lead first time in the game after trailing by 0-3, and it looked another cliffhanger after the half time with Sindhu managing a meager lead of 1 point (11-10). However, after the break Sindhu went on a killing spree and didn’t even allow Okuhara to earn a single point after the half time. The final between PV Sindhu and Spain's first seeded Carolina Marin will be played on friday.
