Bengaluru:The Central Crime Branch (CCB), which is probing the KG Halli and D G Halli riot case in which four people were killed and a number of houses burnt on August 11, have arrested former corporator of Pulakeshinagar ward, Abdul Rakeeb Zakir, who was on the run since then.
He is the second Corporator arrested in this connection after former Mayor R Sampath Raj, who was also on the run for about one month after the incident.
Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) confirmed the arrest of Zakir on Wednesday night and said further details cannot be shared till they interrogate him.
Zakir and Sampath both were hiding together in the same Farm House near Nagarahole. After the arrest of their aide Riyazuddin on November 7, Zakir changed his hideout.
He (Riyazuddin) had helped the duo to escape from the police by arranging accommodation and other basic needs for them.
The CCB has already filed chargesheet against Sampath and Zakir along with other accused. Sampath is at present in judicial custody and lodged in Parappana Agrahara central jail.
The CCB is investigating the case of arson at the residence of Akhanda Srinivas Murthy, Pulakeshinagar MLA, while two other cases of arson at D J Halli and K G Halli police stations are being investigated by National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Police arrests one for pro-terrorist writings in K'taka
Mangaluru:The Police have arrested a man on charges of pro-terrorist writings on the wall in the city.Police said on Thursday that the accused has been identified as Nazeer Muhammed (26), a resident of Thirthahalli.
The Kadri police arrested the accused on Thursday morning and are questioning him.The accused was working as a food delivery man in the city. He is said to have been detained based on mobile records.
On November 27, writings on the wall beside a road near Bejai near Kadri police station, read, "Do not come to provoke us to undertake subversive work. Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Taliban know how to look after the Sanghi", and "Lashkar Zindabad", were visible for the public to see.
Then, on Nov 29, an inscription reading "Gustakh e Rasool Ek hi saza tan say Juda" was seen on the wall of the old building of the court premises near the city's PVS circle.(UNI)
