Speeding truck hits autorickshaw carrying catering staff in Bihar, 9 die, 5 injured

Lakhisarai: In a major road accident, nine people died and five sustained serious injuries when a speeding truck hit an autorickshaw carrying passengers on Lakhisarai -Sikandra road under the Ramgarh Chowk police outpost in the district on Tuesday late night.
 
Police said here on Wednesday that a speeding truck hit an autorickshaw near Ramgarh Chowk around 1:30 AM on Tuesday night. 'Nine people were killed and five others injured in the accident,' police added.
 
"Police reached on the spot soon after receipt of the incident and sent the victims to a local hospital for treatment," the police said, adding that five people with serious injuries were sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for better treatment.
 
All nine bodies had been sent for a postmortem, police informed. The deceased had not been identified as yet, police stated.
 
"Eight of nine deceased were stated to be residents of Janghera village under Jamalpur police station area in Munger district," police said, adding that the deceased were catering staff returning Munger from Lakhisarai.
 
The driver managed to escape from the spot with the truck after the incident, and police further said that an attempt was being made to track the truck driver and arrest him.
