Hamirpur:Dogs menace in all eleven wards of the town and its adjoining areas has created a big problem for the people and they are finding it difficult how to get rid of it.Right from early morning till late at night, hundreds of dogs can be seen roaming in all parts of the town in groups and endangering the lives of people, especially children.

A recent incident in which a two and half year female child was mauled by stray dogs has invited the attention of the authorities but no action against the erring animals so far.Notably, there is not a single ward in the city where people have not kept pet dogs, but the city council does not even have a record of how many pets and how many stray dogs are there in the city.

People are finding it difficult to take a walk in the city in the morning and evening due to stray dogs. The residents of the city are living in the shadow of terror due to the dogs roaming in herds on the road.

The residents of the city have been demanding the registration of pet dogs from the city council and strict action against stray dogs for many years, but the problem remains as it was earlier. At the same time, action against stray dogs should also be implemented in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department.

On the other hand, Akshit Gupta, EO of Nagar Parishad Hamirpur, said that there is no system for the registration of pet dogs in the Nagar Parishad yet, but action will be taken on this issue in the Nagar Parishad meeting after December 8th.

A campaign will be launched for the sterilization of stray dogs in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department, he added.(UNI)
