Panaji: As talks between Goa Government and private taxi operators on GoaMiles, failed to make any headway on Thursday, the tourist taxis in the state stayed off roads on Friday.
According to taxi union leader Vinayak Nanoskar, the strike was symbolic and a protest against government's decision not to scrap the app.Due to the strike, several tourists in the state faced hardship as the private taxis refused to take them to railway stations and airport.

Mr Nanoskar said 25,000 tourist taxis, which included yellow and black taxis as well, took part in the protest. While private cabbies have been insistent with their demand that the app be scrapped, the government on the other hand has been firm that the app will continue.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday made it clear that app was need of the hour and if someone came out with their own app, the government would welcome that.(UNI)
