Chennai: Even as the Tamil Nadu government has been insisting on the centre to get the Presidential assent for the Bill to exempt the State from the NEET exams, yet another girl committed suicide after failing to clear the exams.
The incident occurred at suburban Thirumullaivoyil, within hours after the NEET result were announced late last night.
The girl, who took the extreme step by hanging herself at her house was 19-year-old Lakshana Swedha who was dejected after failing to clear the exams.
The girl, who is studying MBBS in Philippines, wanted to pursue medicine in Chennai and took the NEET exams with the hope of getting good marks. Since she could not clear it, she took the extreme step, police said.
Her parents rushed to the Government Kilpauk Medical College and hospital where she was declared brought dead. The body was kept at the hospital for post-mortem after which it would be handed over to the parents.
Leaders of various political parties, including the ruling DMK, have been urging the Centre to get the Presidential assent for the Bill which was passed in the State Assembly for the second time.
A couple of days back, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin took up the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the southern zonal council meeting in Thiruvananthapuram and urged him to take steps for getting the Presidential assent for the Bill seeking to exempt TN from NEET. (UNI)
