Teen convicted of rape, murder of 5 YO cousin set free on Rs 10k fine

Thane: A 13-year-old boy convicted of kidnap, rape and murder of his five-year old cousin was set free merely on a fine of Rs 10,000 and community services, according to an order passed by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) at Bhiwandi.

On October 28 last year, the victim girl went missing from her home in Saravali village of Bhiwandi town here, and her blood-soaked body was found next day besides a water pipeline close to the village.

Subsequently, the Kongaon Police arrested the accused teen and booked him under IPC sections 364 (kidnapping in order to murder), 302 (murder), 376 (rape) as well as The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO) Act of 2012.

The police submitted the charge sheet in the court within 50 days, stated the Bhiwandi Zone II DCP Rajkumar Shinde.

On the February 13 order, JJB Principle Magistrate H Y Kawale convicted the accused and ordered him to perform community services besides paying the fine for the “heinous crime”. (UNI)
