Telangana Archaeology unearths world’s largest Capstone

Hyderabad: The excavations of ancient human burial site by Telangana Archaeology in Narmeta village of Siddipet district has led to a stunning discovery of the world’s largest Capstone. The massive capstone of Menhir burial, which reportedly weighs about 40 tonnes was lifted carefully at the excavation site on March 21, 2017.
 

It is indeed a moment of reckoning for the efforts of Archaeology department, which is conducting large scale excavations at this site, resulting in this exciting discovery, according to Telangana Archaeology Department Assistant Director D Ramulu Naik. “ The department is all set to undertake DNA testing of various artefacts that have been discovered at this site which will help in tracing the lineage of the pre-historic man, their food habits, and lifestyle and how their populations later became extinct”, Mr Naik added.
