This state govt announces holiday for women on International Women’s Day

Hyderabad: Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Monday said that Telangana is the first state in the country to announce a holiday for women on International Women’s Day.

Speaking as Chief Guest at an interactive meeting on “Role of Graduates in Legislative Council”, held at Exhibition Grounds here in commemorating International Women’s Day, organized by Economic Committee, Andhra Pradesh, Mr Srinivas said that the women were moving forward in all aspects.

He said education plays a pivotal role. So that the state government has been promoting education in a big way. About 945 Residential Schools were established in the state as part of KG to PG free education.

Recognizing women’s prominence in the society, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has allocated 50 percent of municipal seats to women in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, the Minister said and added that Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts were also allocated to women.

Reacting to women demand political reservations in Assembly and Council to raise their voice, Mr Srinivas said that the state has the right to provide reservations to the women in the local body like Municipality, ZPTC, Panchayat and among others, wherein political reservations for women in Assembly and Council concerned Parliament should pass a Bill.

The Minister asked the Economic Committee’s sister organization Exhibition Society which produces thousands of graduates every year to support TRS candidate Ms Surabhi Vani Devi, daughter of former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao in MLC Graduates constituency elections scheduled to be held on March 14.

He also assured to resolve the problems of the Exhibition Society after bringing to the notice of the Chief Minister.

Earlier, women who spoke on the occasion asked political reservations in Assembly and Council to raise their voice. (UNI)
