Tripura: Youth brutally kills street dog by slamming it to the ground, hangs another from tree; arrested after videos went viral

Agartala: In an early morning operation, Tripura police have arrested a youth from his residence in Hadrai village under Teliamura police station in Khowai district for brutally killing a street dog three days ago.
 
The youth, identified as Badar Jamatia, has been booked under section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960,
 
Police launched an investigation soon after TIPRA Motha founder and Royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman lodged an FIR after noticing the horrifying act of cruelty against the animal Badar in social media.

However, the video went viral, which triggered a serious reaction across the state, but the accused had been absconding.
 
Badar was accused of several such brutal killings of animals, including street dogs, police said. The viral videos, which surfaced online, show the accused slamming a dog to the ground and later hanging another from a tree.
 
In response to the incident, Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhangshu Das had earlier directed officials to launch an investigation. Meanwhile, animal welfare organizations have urged for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws to prevent such incidents in the future.
