Bahraich: A 23-year-old youth shot himself and committed suicide allegedly after failing to clear the medical test for recruitment in the Army in Kotwali Dehat area of Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
Police sources here said that Rohit Sharma, a resident of Adilpur, was preparing for selection in the army.
"His uncle Kuldeep Sharma said that so far Rohit had appeared in the recruitment exam five times and this time he cleared the written examination for Staff Selection Commission (SSC)," they said.
The sources also said that on Friday last Rohit cleared the medical test, but was called to Lucknow due to spot in his leg. "According to Kuldeep, Rohit's medical test was done at the Army hospital in Cantt in Lucknow after which he was rejected.
Dejected with this, the youth came back from Lucknow on Wednesday night," they said.
Sources said that on Thursday Rohit shot himself with a licenced weapon and committed suicide after returning from morning walk.
Station House Officer (SHO) SK Tripathi said that the youth died after sustaining bullet injury. (UNI)
