Bareilly (UP): A police personnel was arrested and sent to jail for creating a fake profile of a law student on social media and posting objectionable videos on it, a senior police officer said here on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhati said that the victim, who is a first year student of law, lives in a rented house in Prem Nagar area. "According to the student she met police personnel Om Shyam Hari at the gate of her college a few months back and during conversation he took her mobile number," he said.

He said that the student has alleged that after a few days Om Shyam started talking obscenely to which she resisted. "Later the girl blocked the number of the cop after which he created her fake profile on Instagram and uploaded several obscene videos one by one. He even sent the videos to the girl from another number," he said.

The SP said that the victim met Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhakar Chaudhary on Wednesday afternoon and narrated the incident. "The SSP got the matter probed. The Kotwali police lodged a case against Om Shyam under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, Pocso Act and IT Act and he was arrested in the night. He was produced before the court on Thursday from where he has been sent to jail," he said.

SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary said that the preliminary inquiry on the complaint of the student confirmed the allegations. "The Kotwali police have lodged a case against him and he has been suspended," he said. (UNI)
