Kolkata: BJP leader Rakesh Singh, accused of supplying drugs, has been arrested from Bardhaman and his two sons were arrested from their home in Kolkata for allegedly obstructing policemen from doing government duty.
Rakesh Singh was in the news after BJP’s women’s wing leader Pamela Goswami was arrested recently on drug charges as she allegedly named the BJP leader for supplying cocaine to her, police said.
Police is suspecting the involvement in the drug case of a linkman, yet to be traced.
On Tuesday night, police arrested Rakesh Singh and one of his associates Jitendra Singh from Galshi in Bardhaman district as he was planning to fly to Delhi.
The duo was brought to Lalbazar last night.
Police said the BJP leader was planning to go to Bhubaneswar from where he had planned to fly to Delhi.
New Alipore (city’s southern part) Police also arrested Rakesh Singh’s two sons Shuvam and Saheb on Tuesday slapping charges under sections 353 and 34 for obstructing policemen from doing their duty.
They were taken to SSKM Hospital for medical check up before producing them before a city court today.
Anti-narcotics cell of Lalbazar and New Alipore Police Monday went to Rakesh Singh’s house for to search the premises but his sons prevented them from entering the house demanding search warrant.
Police entered the house after two-and-a-half hours and conducted the search and arrested Shuvam and Saheb.
Rakesh Singh’s daughter alleged that the police did not provide the seizure list.
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh alleged political vendetta by the TMC government headed by chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
He alleged that once a person was caught with smuggled gold at Kolkata airport but was not arrested but here BJP leader’s sons were arrested for demanding a search warrant from the policemen.
Gosh said the BJP would launch an agitation if police fails to provide proof against Rakesh Singh for his involvement in the alleged drug supply case. (UNI)
