Lucknow: Prediction of a possible BJP government in Uttar Pradesh by TV channels and other agencies' exit polls has not augured well with Samajwadi Party and the Congress who are refusing to accept the verdict. There are reports doing rounds that Samajwadi Party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that he is not averse to forging an alliance with secular parties, hinting at their arch rival Bahujan Samaj Party.
The Congress leaders are still hopeful that the exit polls have been manipulated. Though the CM's statement was made before the exit polls which started at 1730 hrs yesterday, he was speaking on the role of the SP in case of a hung Assembly. "The SP is not averse to forging an alliance to form the government with secular parties to prevent a President's rule, which could only give the BJP a pseudo government in the state," Akhilesh had commented.
However, the BJP leaders elated over the exit polls, now believe that they would be getting absolute majority in the elections and they are on the verge of forming the government. "The statement of Akhilesh Yadav vindicates our charge that the SP and BSP are just two sides of a coin and during the past 14 years they have saved each other in corruption and misrule," claimed UP BJP general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak, while claiming that there is no doubt now that BJP is coming to power with full majority.
"We are thankful to the people of the state for supporting us in a big way and rejecting these two regional parties, who have looted the state for their own vested interest," he said in a statement here. Mr Pathak further said that the voters of the state now want development and 'susashan' hence they have rejected all the lucrative offered by the SP-Congress and the BSP during the campaign. Though there is no official comment from the BSP, but the SP and the Congress have refused to accept the exit poll prediction by the agencies. Senior BSP leaders, however, said" It is strange that BSP was shown just out of contest in the UP polls , which is surprising."
He further said that as the BSP do not give any advertisements to these agencies hence there could be manipulation in the exit polls. UP Congress spokesperson Amarnath Agarwal, expressing his annoyance over the exit polls, claimed that such thing happened in Bihar polls too but when the result came everything was different.
"We don't have any faith in this exit polls and during the past several elections its authenticity has been challenged," he said. Similar views were made by SP spokesperson and UP Minister Rajendra Choudhury ,who today claimed that the SP-Congress alliance would be making the government whatever the exist polls shows. He too gave the example of Bihar and Delhi Assembly polls where these exit polls went totally wrong. "We cannot believe in these exist polls as their sample numbers are very less and they have no credibility," he further added. (UNI)
