New Delhi, Sept 25 (UNI) In a clear bid to win the popular support of the nation with an eye on the 2019 General Elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 'Saubhagya' – Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana.
The scheme aims at providing ‘last mile electricity' connectivity to all rural and urban households.
Importantly, the announcement has been made on the occasion of the 101th birth anniversary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue Pt Deendayal Upadhyay.
The scheme will reinforce the the government's 'Electricity-for-All target' and the highlights of the same include - providing subsidy on equipment like transformers, meters and wires.
According to sources, the BJP-led government has set a 1,000-day target to electrify over 18,000 villages that don't have access to electricity at all.
