109 cadets from J&K to participate in Republic Day parade: NCC DG

New Delhi: Stating that disturbance hasn’t deter students from joining National Cadets Corps (NCC) in Jammu Kashmir, Director General Lt Gen BS Sahrawat said a total of 109 cadets will participate in the Republic Day parade on January 26, which is three more than last year.


 
 
On being asked about has terror related activities affected the enrollment, Lt Gen Sahrawat said, “The number of cadets from Jammu and Kashmir has risen in comparison to last year. The total strength was 106 last year. This year three more cadets are participating and all of them are girls.” 
 
A total of 2,070 cadets across the country will participate in the Republic Day parade. 
 
Currently, over 13 lakh cadets were enrolled in the NCC and the government has also planned to expand it to 15 lakh by 2020. 
 
He also said that the number of girl cadets was risen to 30.3 per cent from 28 per cent previous year. 
 
“As many as 2,070 cadets, including 703 girls, from 29 states and seven union territories are participating in this Republic Day Camp,” the DG told reporters.
 
The camp will be inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on January 6. The Defence Minster and the Minister of State for Defence will pay a visit later.
 
On expansion of the organization, he said, “We are now focusing on coastal, border and Left Wing Extremism affected districts. So far we have covered 703 districts out of 716.”(UNI)
